You have a garden with apple trees in it. They've lost their labels. Perhaps they never had any. And it's always more fun to say, 'Oh, that's Ingestre Yellow in the pie/sauce/chutney' or whatever. In my Scottish Borders garden there were two old apple trees, possible planted when the house was three separate cottages, perhaps even planted when they were built in the late 1700's - though I doubt that. Photos later today! However, we also brought some young apple trees from our previous garden... and only two of those had their labels. Ingestre Yellow and Court Plat Pendu. The first is a charmer, tiny, as you can see. Ripens usually in late August, sweet and delicious. A fiddle to eat, so we juice ours. Lovely. The other is a supposedly Roman variety of apple, certainly medieval, and is a nuisance. Slow slow slow to grow, flowers very late in the season, and is costive of fruit. I don't recall having enjoyed it. I plan to replace it with a pear.

HOWEVER, that leaves me with five others! Here are pictures. If you have apples in your garden, why not post photos here, and perhaps other readers will be able to help you!
